#1502 • (2) Series 1957 $1 Silver Certificates, Blue Seal
Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)
High bid $15.00
Status: Available
Two Series 1957 one-dollar silver certificates, the last stretch of paper money that promised silver to whoever held it. Each face reads 'IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND' and 'THIS CERTIFICATE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.' Blue Treasury seal. Blue serial [removed]. 'SERIES 1957' printed plain, with no letter after the year. The printed signatures appear to read Ivy Baker Priest as Treasurer of the United States and Robert B. Anderson as Secretary of the Treasury, which looks to be the pairing generally associated with Series 1957 ones. Flip them over and both backs carry 'IN GOD WE TRUST.' One note shows face plate position D, the other H. The serial [removed] are not consecutive and do not share a prefix letter. These notes did their jobs. The D note has fold lines, including a vertical fold near center, plus creasing, edge wear, and toned paper, and one corner appears rounded or worn away. The H note has dark blotchy staining on the left side of the face and the right side of the back, a corner with paper missing, and creases and general circulation wear. Honest, circulated blue seals, a pair for the album, the collection, or the kid who has never held a silver certificate. Series: 1957 All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
