#1714 • Philippine Banknotes: Central Bank One & Two Pesos, 1949 Seal
Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)
High bid $10.00
Status: Available
Old paper from the Central Bank of the Philippines. This lot includes a One Peso note and two Two Pesos notes, each carrying the Central Bank seal dated 1949 and the line 'THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER IN THE PHILIPPINES FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE' along the bottom border. The One Peso shows a portrait labeled with what appears to be 'MABINI'. The Two Pesos notes carry a portrait that appears to be José Rizal. Each note looks to have two printed signatures, shown as the President of the Philippines and the Governor of the Central Bank. Then there's the one with a story. A Central Bank of the Philippines 20 centavos note has 'Wanted Pen Pal' handwritten in ink across the top margin, with several more handwritten lines across its face in what appears to be a name and address, including 'Olongapo' and 'Zambales'. Somebody turned pocket change into a personal ad. Also here: a green note reading 'PHILIPPINES' and 'HALF PESO', with '1/2 PESO' and '50 CENTAVOS' in the corners. These notes have been handled. Folds, creases, toning or soiling, and edge wear show in varying degrees, with the middle Two Pesos note looking darker and dirtier than its siblings. Good stuff for a Philippine currency collector or anyone who likes paper with some miles on it. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
