#1754 • Two Replica Dollars: 1794 Flowing Hair & 1804 Draped Bust Copies

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $15.00

Status: Available

Two of the most famous dollars in American coinage, in a form you can actually hold. This lot is a pair of replica coins: one a copy of the 1794 Flowing Hair dollar, the other a copy of the 1804 Draped Bust silver dollar. The 1794 copy is gold-colored and sits in a clear round capsule. The obverse shows LIBERTY over a flowing-hair portrait facing right, the date 1794, a ring of stars and a toothed (denticled) border. Flip it and there is a small eagle inside a wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the edge, plus the word COPY in the field to the right of the eagle. The 1804 copy is silver-colored, with LIBERTY over a draped-bust portrait facing right and a date that reads as 1804. The reverse carries the full heraldic eagle: shield, E PLURIBUS UNUM ribbon, stars and an arc of clouds above, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the edge. COPY is struck on the shield. It shows what appears to be darker toning at the rim and in the recesses, which gives the design some depth. Both pieces are marked COPY, which looks to be the kind of replica marking associated with the US Hobby Protection Act. Good for a display case, a teaching set, or settling an argument about what the real ones look like. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
