#1757 • (2) Missouri Sales Tax Tokens in Hand-Labeled 2x2-Style Holders

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

Starting at $5.00

Status: Available

Two Missouri sales tax tokens, one pair, one lot. Small pieces of everyday state history that once made change for pennies at the counter, now sitting in hand-labeled holders and ready for a collection. The red token reads MISSOURI across the top of its rim and TAX TOKEN at the lower right. It looks to be translucent plastic and shows what appears to be a numeral 1 in its central circle. Its partner is gray and appears to be metal, with a rim legend that looks to read SALES TAX RECEIPT. Each token sits in a white cardboard 2x2-style holder with a clear window, stapled shut and hand-labeled 'Missouri Sales Tax Token' in ink. Missouri is generally understood to have issued these tokens in the mid-20th century in several materials, plastic and metal among them, and this pair appears to show both. A neat start for a token collector, or a tidy addition for anyone who already has a few. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
