#1760 • (2) American Revolution Bicentennial Commemorative Medals on Stamp Cards
Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)
High bid $10.00
Status: Available
Two American Revolution Bicentennial commemorative medals, each mounted in its own card. Each medal sits in a round window on the left side of the card and shows a portrait bust with the legend AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL around the edge. The medals appear gold-colored, set against what appears to be navy card stock with white lettering. Each card is printed AMERICAN REVOLUTION BICENTENNIAL COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL along the bottom. The stamps make the pair. Each card carries a block of four 8-cent COLONIAL AMERICAN CRAFTSMEN stamps marked BICENTENNIAL ERA and UNITED STATES POSTAGE 8 CENTS. The four designs in each block appear to show four different craftsmen scenes: a glass bottle maker, a teapot or silversmith, a wig, and a hat maker. Every block is cancelled FIRST DAY OF ISSUE with a round WILLIAMSBURG postmark, the date shown as JUL and a year beginning 197. That fits what is generally known of this stamp issue, which appears to have had its first-day ceremony at Williamsburg, Virginia, on July 4, 1972. Condition is honest estate condition. The right-hand card has a tear at the upper left above the medal window, and the lower-left stamp on that card has a torn or folded corner. Both cards show dark stains and spots on the surface. Card edges appear worn and creased, and the stamp paper looks to be toned. Two Bicentennial keepsakes, one lot. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied.
