#1902 • Vintage U.S. Stamps: Jefferson 1c, Liberty Bell 13c, Washington 5c, Parkman

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $5.00

Status: Available

A pile of classic American postage, ready for an album. The headliner is the green Thomas Jefferson 1c, printed 'THOMAS JEFFERSON', 'UNITED STATES' and '1c'. It comes in what appears to be four strips of five, and they look to be coil-format: perforated between stamps, with straight top and bottom edges. The design appears to match the Prominent Americans series of the late 1960s, which included a 1c Jefferson coil. There also appear to be four Jefferson singles loose from the strips, and at least one more stamp appears tucked beneath the end of the fourth strip. The supporting cast is good company. Two brown Liberty Bell 13c stamps read 'PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND'. There is a blue George Washington 5c, and a Francis Parkman 'AMERICAN HISTORIAN' stamp. Rounding it out is what appears to be a strip of the quill-and-inkwell 1c, 'THE ABILITY TO WRITE A ROOT OF DEMOCRACY'. The Washington and Parkman designs appear to match the Prominent Americans series. The quill-and-inkwell and Liberty Bell designs appear to match the Americana series of the mid-1970s to around 1980. Honest wear: the top Jefferson strip is creased between stamps, the end stamp of the second strip has a torn upper right corner, and the third strip appears wavy rather than flat. A fine start for a topical collector, a teacher, or anyone who still likes a stamp with a face on it. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
