#1504 • (2) $1 Silver Certificates, Series 1935 E & 1957, Blue Seal

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $25.00

Status: Available

Two blue-seal $1 Silver Certificates, one lot. Series 1935 E and Series 1957. Each has George Washington on the face, a blue Treasury seal, blue serial [removed], and the line every collector likes to read: 'ONE DOLLAR IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND.' The Series 1957 note carries the printed signatures of Treasurer Ivy Baker Priest and Secretary of the Treasury Robert B. Anderson. The Series 1935 E note shows Ivy Baker Priest at lower left and what appears to be G. M. Humphrey at lower right. One back carries 'IN GOD WE TRUST' above 'ONE', and the other does not. The motto back looks to be the 1957 note, the series where the motto first appeared on the $1 Silver Certificate. These look to have been spent, folded and pocketed like real money. Both notes appear to show fold lines and creasing from circulation, with paper that appears toned to off-white and some surface soiling. The 1935 E note appears to have small nicks or splits along its left edge and what appears to be a small dark vertical mark in the bottom margin below 'ONE DOLLAR.' A good pair for a type set, a starter collection, or a gift for someone who still remembers silver backing paper money. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
