#1510 • (2) $1 Silver Certificates – Series 1957 B, Blue Seal, Washington
Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)
High bid $10.00
Status: Available
Two one-dollar Silver Certificates, both Series 1957 B. Blue Treasury seal, blue serial [removed], and George Washington front and center. These are the notes that once promised silver to whoever held them, and the wording is right there on the face: 'IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND' and 'THIS CERTIFICATE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.' Flip them over and both backs carry 'IN GOD WE TRUST.' The signatures over Treasurer of the United States and Secretary of the Treasury appear to read Kathryn O'Hay Granahan and C. Douglas Dillon. The two notes carry different serial [removed] letters, so this is a pair of individual notes, not a consecutive run. Condition splits the pair. The top note appears to be the less worn of the two, with flatter paper and sharper corners, though it shows what look to be light creases or waves. The bottom note shows what appears to be heavier circulation wear: softened, rounded corners, folds, and toned or off-white paper. One crisper, one that clearly got around. Good for a type set, a gift, or a starter collection. Listing line: Series 1957 B All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
