Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)
High bid $10.00

Four Indian Head cents from the turn of the last century, each riding in its own cardboard 2x2. The holders are marked 1900, 1901, 1902 and 1908. That is four dates from across the span, not a complete run. It is a tidy little group for anyone filling holes in an album or starting one. The classic design is all here. The obverse carries the Indian head portrait facing left, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the rim. The reverse carries ONE CENT inside a wreath with a shield at the top. On the coins in the 1900 and 1901 holders, the dates appear to read 1900 and 1901. Those coins, along with the one in the 1902 holder, appear to have brown to dark brown surfaces and show wear to the portrait and legend. That is honest circulation on hundred-plus-year-old copper. The 1900, 1901 and 1902 holders are labeled by hand, with INDIAN HEAD written in ink. The 1908 holder is smaller than the others. It carries a printed label and has a torn, brown patch at its lower-left corner. The reverse of the coin in that holder shows what appears to be dark spotting or staining across the surface.
