#1631 • (2) 1936 Buffalo Nickels – Indian Head / Bison Five Cent Coins

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $15.00

Status: Available

Two 1936 Buffalo nickels. The design that put a Native American profile on one side and a standing bison on the other, and gave the five-cent piece its most recognizable look. The obverse carries the classic profile with LIBERTY, and the date 1936 reads clearly. Flip it and the bison stands above FIVE CENTS, framed by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The ground beneath the bison looks to be the flat line, with FIVE CENTS set in what appears to be a recess below it. These coins did their job. Both show honest circulation wear: the high points of the bison and the portrait are worn flat in areas, with the hide and hair smoothed down, while the dates and legends stay legible. A close look at one obverse shows what appear to be fine scratches on the cheek and field, with small dark spots near the feathers and rim. The reverses show what look to be dark spots or toning on the bison. Real coins from a real pocket, not a display case. A pair of a coin type collectors keep hunting, in one lot. Good for filling album holes or handing to someone just starting out. Includes: (2) 1936 Buffalo Nickels All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied.
