#1633 • John Adams Presidential Token

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $5.00

Status: Available

John Adams, second president of the United States, shown two ways. Pictured: a U.S. Presidential $1 coin reading 'JOHN ADAMS' and '2nd PRESIDENT 1797-1801', and a larger gold-colored 'Founding Fathers of America' John Adams medal or token. Each sits in its own clear round capsule. The big one is visibly larger across than the dollar and catches the eye first. The obverse puts Adams in front of a flag with stars, with a ribbon banner reading 'JOHN ADAMS'. Flip it and you get 'We the People' in script, then "PROPERTY IS SURELY A RIGHT OF MANKIND AS REAL AS LIBERTY," which appears to be a line commonly attributed to Adams himself. 'FOUNDING FATHERS OF AMERICA' runs on a banner, and a ring of stars frames it all. The finish is gold-colored. Both faces carry many fine surface scratches, heaviest on the reverse field. The dollar coin's reverse shows the Statue of Liberty, '$1' and 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'. Small initials that appear to read 'JI' and 'CLV' flank the bust truncation on the obverse. Coins in this Presidential $1 series appear to be golden-colored manganese-brass clad, not gold. This one shows what appears to be uneven toning or spotting, with a white spot near the hair or forehead of the portrait. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
