#1716 • Mexican Pesos Banknotes – Banco de Mexico 100 & 50 Pesos, Chihuahua 20 Pesos

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $30.00

Status: Available

A stack of Mexican paper money with a real piece of revolutionary-era history riding on top. The headliner is an orange-red El Estado de Chihuahua Veinte Pesos note, printed 'Chihuahua, Mexico' and issued under a military decree dated 10 February 1914. Two oval portraits flank the center, the serial [removed] is printed in red, and the signatures sit along the bottom. 'Pagara al portador en efectivo,' it says. Bold words. Behind it comes a run of Banco de Mexico S.A. notes. Purple Cien Pesos notes carry a bearded portrait on the face, what appears to be Venustiano Carranza, and a seated carved stone figure on the back. Blue-green cincuenta pesos notes show a man in a bow tie, looks to be Benito Juarez, with a temple and sculpted head on the reverse. There is also at least one older green-toned Banco de Mexico 100-peso note, and at the bottom of one stack sits what appears to be a 1000-peso note. These notes went around. Folds, creases, soiling, discoloration and edge wear throughout, and some notes have torn or missing edge and corner portions. Honest pocket money from another era, good for a collector, a teacher, or anyone who likes holding history in their hand. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
