#1514 • Series 1963 Red Seal $2 Bill – Jefferson Face, Monticello Back

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $10.00

Status: Available

Series 1963. Two dollars. Red seal, red serial [removed]. The red Treasury seal sits over the 'TWO' on the right side of the face, and both serial [removed] are printed in matching red ink. That is the look collectors of old deuces go hunting for. The top border appears to read 'UNITED STATES NOTE', and Series 1963 red seal $2 notes are generally known to have been issued as United States Notes. Jefferson's portrait sits at center, labeled on its ribbon. 'THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE' runs to the left and 'WASHINGTON, D.C.' to the right. The signatures look to be Kathryn O'Hay Granahan as Treasurer and C. Douglas Dillon as Secretary of the Treasury, the pairing generally associated with this series. Small check letters marked 'H' appear on the face. Flip it over and Monticello fills the back, under 'IN GOD WE TRUST'. It has been handled. A vertical fold runs through the center of the portrait, front and back, with what appear to be additional creases, including one left of center. The face appears to show soiling and toning, heaviest at left and center. The back looks lighter, with some edge discoloration. The top edge appears to show small nicks or splits near the center fold. Plain wear, plainly described. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
