#1516 • Series 1953 C $2 Red Seal United States Note, Jefferson / Monticello
Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)
High bid $25.00
Status: Available
A Series 1953 C two-dollar United States Note, red seal and red serial [removed]. 'UNITED STATES NOTE' runs across the top border of the face, and the red Treasury seal sits over the 'TWO' lettering at right. Red ink, Jefferson, two dollars. Simple as that. The face carries the portrait labeled 'JEFFERSON', with 'WASHINGTON, D.C.' and 'SERIES 1953 C' printed to the right. The legal tender clause reads 'THIS NOTE IS A LEGAL TENDER AT ITS FACE VALUE FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE.' The signatures appear to read Kathryn O'Hay Granahan as Treasurer of the United States and C. Douglas Dillon as Secretary of the Treasury. The face check letter looks to be 'D', with what appears to be face plate number 13 at lower right. Turn it over and you get the green back with Monticello in the central vignette under the banner 'THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA'. The back plate number is shown as 397. The corners appear square in the photos. One note, one lot, Series 1953 C, and it's a red seal deuce for whoever wants it most. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
