#1518 • Series 1928 G $2 Red Seal Note, Jefferson Face, Monticello Back

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $5.00

Status: Available

A United States $5 Silver Certificate, Series 1934 D, with blue Treasury seal, blue serial [removed] and the big blue 5 at left. Lincoln holds the center oval, named on the ribbon beneath. Across the face runs the old promise: "FIVE DOLLARS IN SILVER PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND." Paper money that once answered to a silver vault. The face also carries "THIS CERTIFIES THAT THERE IS ON DEPOSIT IN THE TREASURY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "THIS CERTIFICATE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE." The signatures read as Georgia Neese Clark, Treasurer of the United States, and John W. Snyder, Secretary of the Treasury. Face check letter F, face plate F2124. Flip it over and the Lincoln Memorial sits in the oval, printed in green, with "THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" above and "FIVE DOLLARS" below. This note looks to have spent time in a wallet: soft corners, light wrinkling, and what appears to be a vertical crease through the center. Small reddish-brown spots sit on the face near the left wreath, and the back appears to show uneven discoloration or soiling, heaviest in the margins. Honest wear on a single note with real history behind it. A solid fill for a blue seal set or a fine start to one. All lots sell as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied. Preview in person before bidding.
