#1642 • (29) Indian Head Pennies, 1888-1908 Lot

Part of October Multi-Estate Auction (timed auction by Bid Fast and Last)

High bid $35.00

Status: Available

Twenty-nine Indian Head cents, counted and laid out in five rows. That's a real handful of the classic feathered-headdress design, the profile portrait with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around the rim and the date below. The dates on display run from an 1888 at the early end to 1908 at the late end. Legible along the way: 1890, 1893, 1903, 1905 and 1907. Others in the group look to be 1896, 1901 and 1902, with what appears to be another 1908 in the mix. Nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century copper, all in one lot. These coins circulated, and they show it. There is honest wear on the headdress and portrait, flattened high points on the feathers, and a few coins carry dark spotting, discoloration or red-brown surface deposits with heavy wear. This is a working group of old cents, not a polished set. It suits a collector filling holes in an album, a starter set for a young collector, or anyone who likes the feel of coins that went through a lot of pockets.
